A Much Overdue Update

Hey all! It’s been a bit of a quiet spell from me but much has been happening behind the scenes. First off, I’m super stoked to say I’m half way through making this new album (9 songs recorded and final mixed) and so far I’ve raised half of my final GoFundMe amount to help make it happen! So thank you hugely from the bottom of my heart to every single person who has donated. I absolutely would not be able to make this record right now if it weren’t for all of you!

So what’s next, you ask? Coming right up, I’ll be heading into Crackle & Pop Studio one more time to record a 10th and final song. I can say that every song on this album means a lot to me. Writing these songs has helped me process and work through a lot over the last few years. Transitions, changes, losses, reflections, growing pains. This 10th song in particular was an exercise in processing grief. About two years ago we lost Frank Johnson. My pseudo-uncle, a family friend, and the original bass player from my first band, Star Anna and The Laughing Dogs. Though our orbits had drifted apart by the time of his death, he will always be such an integral part of my life, my career and my musical beginnings. A few days after finding out, I was listening non stop to an instrumental piece I’d created on GarageBand, just driving around, humming some melodies, and the song “Silver Lining” began pouring out of me. I thought a lot about how roles change throughout our existence and about the divine burden/blessing of passing on the knowledge we’ve gained, through kindness, patience, understanding and love and how, when it really comes down to it, that’s all we can do.

The chorus goes-

“We are the ones that keep the fire burning, just like the ones before us have done. We are the ones that light the way forward into the dark for those yet to come.”

I’m going back into the studio at the end of this month with the goal of bringing this song to life, something we weren’t able to do during our previous time in the studio. I’ve been saving up my money from shows and work but still need y’all’s help. Please check out my GoFundMe, please donate if you can! Help me get this song recorded and mixed and then help me get these 10 songs mastered and ready to be released by spring!

Also, stay tuned, I’ll be announcing a Livestream date soon, where I will be playing the new songs and talking about each one, what they mean, where they came from, etc.

In the meantime, I’m looking forward to a handful of special shows.

-Sept. 30th I’ll be a part of a tribute to the late, great Sinéad O’Connor along w/ a group of very talented singers and musicians at Conor Byrne (Seattle). Proceeds will be donated to Lambert House, a Seattle based organization that works to provide resources and safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth.

-Oct. 6th at Old Skools (Ellensburg) w/ Emma Danner. This one is all ages and at one of my favorite hometown venues! Not only does Old Skools put on many amazing shows, you can also find the coolest secondhand clothing, records, cds, DVDs, VHS, books and more!

-Oct. 19th at The Fiddlers Inn (Seattle). I’ll be performing two sets of my own music, new songs, old songs and covers!

Hope to see ya out there and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the support!

Love,

Star Anna
